NT$18,000 fine for anyone who will be caught carrying meat products from other country into Taiwan (COA)





The numbers of confiscated meat products entering Taiwan from China alone have reached a total of 181 cases from September 1 to October 14, 2018. Because of this, the commission on agriculture (COA) is set to amend the law regarding the importation and smuggling of meat products from other countries.



The Deputy  Minister of Commission on Agriculture (COA) Chen Chi-Chung (陳吉仲) has announced last October 15, that they will amend the law regarding meat importation and will increase the fine from NT$15,000 to NT$300,000. (COA) hopes that this amendment will stop the illegal importation of meat from entering Taiwan.







COA Deputy Minister Chen Chi-Chung (陳吉仲 is hoping that the Executive Yuan will approve the amendment of the law as soon as possible.






Effective on October 18, 2018 anyone who will be caught carrying meat items from other countries, regardless whether it is raw or processed meat, will be fined NT$18,000. the COA declared ON Monday as a major aspect of a government effort to avert African swine fever (ASF) from entering Taiwan.
