Honest Janitor in NAIA Returned an Envelope Full of US-Dollar-Cash

An envelope full of US-dollar-cash was found by a janitor in the lobby of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

According to a press release of Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Jeffrey Almoguerra, a 30-year-old janitor and employee of Philcare Manpower Services found the cash while he was cleaning near the foreign exchange counter.

The envelope contained a lot of US dollar bills and Jeffrey rushed to one of the guards and told him about what he found. The guard went with him to MIAA Lost and Found Section to turn over the envelope full of cash.

Personnel of MIAA documented the scene while they counted the money in front of Almoguerra and the guard.

It was not revealed how much the envelope contained because the staff will ask whoever claims the money about it to check if they are the real owner of the envelope.

Officials of MIAA Media Affairs Division last Wednesday, January 16 explained that the Lost and Found section is waiting for someone to claim the envelope. The claimant should be able to prove that he or she owns the money because the envelope has no marks or means of identification aside from the amount of money inside of it.

According to one of the officials of MIAA Media Affairs Division, they will not disclose the amount as it will be a means of confirming who the owner of the envelope is.




Due to Jeffrey’s honesty, the head of MIAAA stated that the culture of honesty is still alive in NAIA.
Ed Monreal, General Manager of MIAA was so pleased with Jeffrey’s actions. According to him, they will give appropriate credit/recognition to the janitor.

He added that they give credit because they want everyone in the MIAAA organization to continue doing simple, noble deeds just like what was exhibited by Mr. Almoguerra. Monreal urged all the service contractors to recognize and appreciate the achievement of their employees. They should take care of them so they continue to set as a good example to everyone. We want NAIA to be famous for goodness and honesty.

In an interview, Jeffrey mentioned that he never thought of taking the money for himself.
