OFW Woman Escapes Abusive Employers But Suffers Sexual Assault by Taxi Driver

Overseas Filipino workers or OFW’s around the globe are the unsung heroes of the modern world and they deserve all the respect and recognition for their selfless sacrifices, tireless dedication, and fervent passion through the years. They spill blood, sweat, and tears for the sake of their country and their beloved families as they explore uncharted territories and endure all sorts of hardships, loneliness, and misery. They know that they hold the key that will unlock doors and windows of opportunity towards a better future, therefore, they put on a brave face, leave their comfort zone and emerge from their safety bubble so that they can change their destiny with their own, two hands.\

More often than not, they come home triumphantly as they build their dream house, send their children to reputable schools as well as rise from the muck and shackles of poverty that is preventing them from shooting for the stars and reaching their loftiest dreams. But there are some grim and heart-wrenching instances where they suffer unspeakable nightmares away from their motherland and such is the case of a young Filipina in yet another video that has recently surfaced in different websites and social media platforms.



The victim (name withheld for privacy) on the aforementioned video is a 28-year old woman working somewhere in the Middle East who claims to have suffered maltreatment and abuse in the hands of her employers. Allegedly, her employers do not feed her properly, not even a measly piece of bread, because they only cook one cup of rice for their family. Her daily hunger and the constant verbal abuse and reprimands of her cruel employers pushed her over the edge and she decided to escape before she suffers further violations of her basic human rights.

She fled frantically to the highway wanting to put as much distance as possible between her and her employers and she rode three taxis trying to get as far away as she can. Unfortunately, the third taxi that she rode unleashed fresh hell and horrendous horrors upon her because she was raped by the driver. She tried to resist and she desperately pushed him away as she begged for mercy repeatedly but she was overpowered and sexually violated by the perpetrator whom she identified to be an Arab or Pakistani national. To pour salt on her injury, she was given 50 riyals by the rapist as if this compensated for his villainous and deplorable crime.

On the video, you can see in the victim’s eyes and body language that she is still in shock and haunted by the physical trauma, psychological torment and sexual assault that she suffered. We hope that our government officials and ambassadors act swiftly, help her get back home to her family and give her the justice that she deserves.
