Housewives & single moms will soon receive salaries from the Philippine Government if this bill is passed



The House Bill 8875, proposed by Albay Representative Joel Sarte Salceda, stated that housewives
should also be given salary for their jobs at home like taking care of their children and their husbands.

It was proposed on January 12, 2018, that out of the twelve million Filipinos, 11.2 million are
unemployed females who are stay-at-home moms. 4.168 million Filipino women with children aged 12 years old and below. The 1.790 million of the female population of the Philippines are in poverty






Salceda, who is also an economist, strongly believes that it is the right time to recognize the big
contributions of the housewives to the growth of society. He proposes that female housewives or single parents with children aged 12 years and below should be given a salary from the government an amount equal to the minimum wage that “kasambahays” or maids in the Philippines which is 2,000 Pesos.




According to the bill, the responsibility of drafting and implementing the bill will be given to the
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

According to Salceda, if passed as a law, the estimated budget for it will be 35 billion pesos. 32 billion pesos will be allotted for married housewives and the remaining 3 billion pesos will be allotted for single mothers, widowed mothers, and separated mothers.
