New Traffic Rules to be implemented in October includes helmet violation for e-bike riders




There are 15 new traffic violations that will be implemented in Taiwan in October. Among these violations are the failure to use a helmet while riding e-bikes, failure to utilize a signal while driving an e-bike, and blocking a zebra crossing.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced on September 26 that in October 1st, 15 new traffic rules will be implemented in Taiwan.





A fine of NT$300 will be charged to any resident who will violate the new traffic regulations.

Due to the popularity of the use of electronic bikes in Taiwan, accidents had increased significantly due to its improper usage. Some other factors like the excessive modification of the e-bikes including the modification of more than 25 kilometers of speed had been problematic and are negatively affecting traffic.



E-bike had been a helpful tool for foreign workers because of its affordable price ranges and cheap maintenance costs. It is also popular for tourists and high school students because the law does not require e-bike riders to possess a driver’s license.

According to a report by the CNA, promote safety to the people of Taiwan, the Legislative Yuan’s Transportation Committee had issued a proposal in April about the amendment of the Road traffic Management and Penalty Act.





For riders who exceed the speed of 25km per hour, they will be charged a fine of NT$ 900 and NT $ 1,800. Failure to wear a helmet is charged with a fine of NT $ 300. The refitting of the e-bike without authorization will be asked to pay a fine amounting to NT $1,800 to NT $5,400.

The speed limit for narrow lanes with no lane lines is lowered to 30kph. Blockage of a zebra crossing will be charged with a penalty of NT $3000 to NT $6,000.

Guards of apartments who will cause traffic problems will be charged NT $1,200 to NT $2,400.

Competitions and other events that are held without permission will be asked to pay a penalty of NT $3,000 to NT $ 6,000.

The banks will not anymore help with the transactions fees paid through credit cards. The people who are issued a ticket will be charged a transaction fee based on the size of the fine.
