BOC releases Parcel and Balikbayan Box Tracking System (PBTS)

The Bureau of Customs had released an announcement that relates to promoting transparency and work effectiveness and efficiency. This announcement included the initial release to the public of the Parcel and Balikbayan Box Tracking System (PBTS).

The BOC had included in their announcement that the Parcel and Balikbayan Box Tracking System is targeting to provide a more competitive way of tracking balikbayan boxes and other types of packages. The tracker placed on the balikbayan boxes and other types of packages can be monitored through the Bureau of Customs’ website.

According to the Bureau of Customs, “The system can provide updates about the parcel or balikbayan box as it goes through the different stages of Customs clearance, which also enables the bureau to monitor the efficiency of BoC officials and personnel.” The Balikbayan Box Tracking system can be accessed through the official site of the Bureau of Customs @www.customs.gov.ph

Based on the statement given by Asst. Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla, the release of the PBTS was well-timed as the awaited holidays are fast approaching.

According to assistant commissioner Maronilla, “A lot of OFW is expected to send balikbayan boxes and packages to their loved ones here in the Philippines during this time. The system will aim to lessen instances of scams being perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals. Claimants can verify the status of parcels and packages being processed by Customs.”

The Chief of Customs Rey Leonardo Guerrero had cautioned the public to still be mindful of sending their parcels and packages to the Philippines. He had recommended to the OFWs and claimants to only entrust the delivery services of accredited couriers to prevent scams from questionable operators.
