Confirmed! First Case Of Dengue has been Transmitted Through Sex
Health Officials from Spain had confirmed that on Friday, a man had transmitted dengue through sexual intercourse. This is the first case in the entire globe for the dengue virus to be transferred human-to-human. The dengue virus was thought to only be acquired by a person through mosquito bites.
According to the statement of the Public Health Department in Madrid’s Susana Jimenez, the man who contracted the dengue virus is 41 years old. He lives in Madrid. This 41-year-old man caught the virus after he had sexual activities with his partner. His partner had acquired the dengue virus from a mosquito bite when he traveled to Cuba.
The 41-year-old man’s dengue case was confirmed in the month of September 2019. At first, his doctors were puzzled because the man did not travel to countries where it is possible to contract the disease.
Jimenez said that his lover had shown the same symptoms approximately 10 days ago. She also said that his partner traveled to Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
Their sperms were analyzed and it was found out that they have the dengue virus. Another discovery was that their sperm carry the same dengue virus that is present in Cuba.
There had been an academic publication by South Korean researchers containing the transfer of the dengue virus through the sexual intercourse of a man and a woman.
According to the sources of the Agence France-Presse (AFP), the recently reported case of the male-to-male transfer of the dengue virus through sex is a first.
Based on the website of the World Health Organization, the dengue virus is primarily transferred by the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito. The virus survives in countries with tropical climates. It can reproduce in still bodies of water.
The virus is deadly for children, more specifically, to young girls. The reason for this is still unknown to scientists.
