The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), situated in Manila, had awarded a donation amounting to $100,000 (more or less P5 million). The gift was given to the government of Sorsogon after the destruction of the typhoon Tisoy last month.

Michael Peiyung Hsu, the ambassador of TECO, released a statement last Friday that they picked Sorsogon because of its tight bond with its present governor Francis Escudero.

According to Hsu, he is aware that the reconstruction of the province is in progress. He hopes to see the people of the province back on their feet soon under the capable leadership of their current governor.

Hsu said that the former senator is a long-term friend of the country of Taiwan. He also shared that in the past, Escudero always made time to help Taiwan. He added in his statement that Escudero is a faithful ally of Taiwan.

Governor Escudero was the person who personally received the donation at the office of TECO in Manila. He thanked the officials of TECO and said that the gift would be used to rebuild the different sectors in Sorsogon after the devastating typhoon.

Based on the statement of Governor Escudero, the road in the province are all clear of any roadblocks. 95% of the households in the province are already provided with electricity service. Since the primary restorations are already done by the province, the donations will be used to fund cash (food)-for-work projects.

According to the governor of Sorsogon, the cash (food)-for-work campaign is an effective method in helping the residents in the province to rebuild their home.

Currently, the province of Sorsogon is in the process of reconstructing destroyed homes. There were no destroyed infrastructures such as bridges and roads in the province of Sorsogon due to the typhoon.

The typhoon damaged approximately P2.6 billion worth of properties in Sorsogon. More than 60,000 families in the province were relocated.
