Rowena Guanzon, the Comelec Commissioner, stated that the Comelec en banc had approved the mobile voting app test run which will possibly be used on the May 2022 elections.

Guanzon also revealed that aside from the Philippines, the app test run will also be operated in San Francisco, USA, Singapore, and in an unselected region in the Middle East in June.

The application’s test run will be conducted as part of the agency’s move to help improve the election system of the Philippines.

Guanzon stated that the group thought of a way to ensure that OFWs and other Filipinos outside of the country can cast their votes.

Also, Gunazon proposed to the Commission en banc the use of the mobile application for domestic voting.

Voatz, Smartmatic International, Scytl, and Indra Sistemas were the four companies who offered their services for the test run of the mobile voting application.

As of the moment, the agency is researching how they can entice Filipinos to register to vote, especially those who are currently residing overseas.

There were a 1,822,173 registered voters in the May 2019 elections.

578,185 overseas Filipino voters had been deactivated by the Comelec for their failure to vote in the 2016 and 2019 elections in the Philippines.

Currently, there are more or less 1.3 million Filipino voters.
