Philippine Government Responds to Taiwan’s Plea to Lift Travel Ban

On Friday, the Philippines had created parameters for “evidence-based travel restriction to prevent the spread of the 2019-nCoV outbreak, that was according to Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III after learning of Taiwan’s plea against the travel ban issue.

The Department of Health will be presenting information regarding the Novel Coronavirus case in Taiwan and other countries before the Philippines’ inter-agency task force will arrive at a decision. The decision will be whether they will lift the travel ban or not.

The inter-agency task force will come up with parameters to determine who are included in the travel ban imposed by the government of the Philippines. This will make the ban ‘evidence-based.’

The Philippines also banned inbound flights originating from China, Macau, and Hong Kong.
Taiwan had already expressed its plan for countermeasures if the Philippines does not lift the ban.

According to the chairman of the Manila Economic
and Cultural Office in Taiwan, Angelito Banayo, the Wuhan virus spread in Taiwan is ‘controlled’ by the country. Banayo was earlier reported to have urged the Philippine government to lift the travel ban.
