Taiwan Continues to Take Control as CECC Reports Second Week of Zero COVID-19 Case in the Country

On Thursday, April 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) of Taiwan reported that for the second time in the current week, there were no new COVID-19 confirmed cases.

Zero Count
During the daily press conference of Chen Shih-Chung, the CECC head and Health Minister announced that there is no new case of SARS-CoV-2 infection detected in the country on that day. On Tuesday, there were also no new cases of the deadly illness for the second time in the current week.

Good Streak
Before April 14, Taiwan had reported at least a sole COVID-19 case for the past 36 days. The majority of the reported COVID-19 cases during this time were imported from other nations as lots of Taiwan locals went back from COVID-19 hotspots in Asia, Europe, and North America.

Fears of a Second Wave of COVID-19 Infections
These incidents had led to some fears of a second wave of COVID-19 infections in Taiwan. However, the effective efforts of the CECC such as immediate identification, isolation, and tracing of contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases had led to the control of the spread of the deadly illness.

Out of the 395 total COVID-19 cases of Taiwan, 340 of the total cases were imported from abroad while only 55 were local infections. There were only six reported deaths from the illness while 155 COVID-19 patients have survived the disease.
