MECO Announced the Start of Overseas Absentee Voting
The Manila Economic and Cultural Office or MECO in Taiwan is seeking the attention of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in working in Taiwan. The MECO is reminding all of the registered Filipino who are qualified to vote in this year’s upcoming election to bring with them their proof of identity or their identification cards that are issued by the Philippine Government if they desire to participate or vote in the 2019 elections.
The OFWs in Taiwan are invited to cast their votes for their selected local officials, district representatives to the lower houses, and twelve senators. The national elections for the positions mentioned earlier are scheduled on May 13, 2019.
The voting for the overseas absentee voters who are working in Taiwan will be held from April 13 to May 13. The offices of MECO in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung will be placed where OFWs are expected to cast their votes on the next leaders of the different regions of the Philippines.
The registered voters can cast their votes from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon in all of the offices of the MECO. The offices of MECO will not be open to receive votes on April 18-19 in observance of the Philippine-religious national holiday.
MECO personnel are trained by the Philippine Commission on Elections. The personnel of MECO are trained to serve as election officers and will be the ones who will be manning the polling booths.
As per information from the MECO, there are more or less 17,000 Filipinos who are registered for overseas absentee voting for 2019.
