Pilot Testing for the Philippine ID System to Start in September this Year

According to the Malacanang, the Pilot testing of the National ID system in the Philippines will take effect on September this year.

Salvador Panelo, a spokesperson of the President, stated that during the Cabinet meeting held on Monday, Ernesto Pernia, the Socioeconomic Planning Secretary, and Dennis Mapa, a National Statistician, had talked about the implementation of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

Acording to Salvador Panelo, the pilot testing of the Philippine ID system will start from September and will end on December 2019. The move will register a significant amount of Filipinos from all over the country.

Panelo also said that at the end of President Duterte’s term in 2022, one hundred seven million Filipinos will already be registered in the Philippine ID System program.

The Philippine Statistics Office or the PSA had said earlier that the Philippine ID system pilot testing will be open for Filipinos and resident aliens who are five years old and above. Indigents, persons with disabilities, and government workers will be given priority in the National ID system.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Republic Act 11055 or the PhilSys Act in August of 2018. The law states that Filipino citizens and foreign residents, seeks to harmonize, integrate and interconnect the many government-issued IDs by providing a unified ID system.

The Philippine ID System will provide a national Id to Filipinos which will contain the cardholder’s PhilSys number, Full Name, Facial Image, Sex, Birthday, blood type, address, and biometric information which will include their fingerprints, and iris scans.

Information like marital status, mobile number, and email address will be optional.

PSA estimates that by 2022, 100 million Filipinos will be receiving their national ID cards.
