Bill for 14th Month Pay to Private Sector Employees Issued by Senate President Sotto

Vicente Sotto III, the Senate President of the Philippines, had filed a bill on Monday which aims to provide employees working in private companies a 14th-month pay.

The benefit of the proposed Senate Bill No. 10 shall include all non-government rank and file employees who have at least worked for one month in a private company.

The private company employees should expect to receive the 14th-month pay regardless of their employment status, designation and irrespective of the way their wages are given to them.

The bill also states that the 14th-month pay benefit should not be less than their basic salary per month.

According to Senator Sotto, the 13th-month pay is already set aside by most employees for their Christmas expenses that they also need extra funds in the middle of the year to pay for expenses like school and medical expenses.

The bill proposes that the 13th-month pay will be given to private company employees on or before June 14 of every year.

The bill also suggests that the 14th-month pay be received by private company employees on or before December 24 of every year.

Senate Bill No. 10 also says that an agreement must be reached between the employer and the employee should there be any intentions by both parties to modify the frequency of payment of this monetary benefit.

The bill also requires the Labor and Employment to disseminate the implementing the rules of this measure within sixty days after passing as a law.
