Five-Language WDA Site now available to help Foreign Workers in Taiwan to Transfer to a New Employer

According to an announcement released by Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MOL) on July 15, a five-language website of MOL namely the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) site had added convenience to foreign workers in Taiwan to transfer from one employer to another and seek new jobs.

On Monday this week, the WDA had placed an announcement in their website which stated that the new website will help foreign workers in Taiwan to monitor the progress of their transfer from one employer to another, look for job vacancies, and search for information about employers looking for workers.

According to the WDA, the website is available in the following languages: Mandarin, English, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai.

Along with the addition of the four languages, the site will be including a title of “Information Site of Foreign Workers Rights Defense” which will enable a visitor of the site to have the option to click on the “Migrant Worker Employer Transfer Query”. After filling up the required information like passport number and more, the worker can see the progress of his or her transfer to a new employer; also, have an enumerated list of employers looking for workers.

Based on recent regulations, there are a lot of reasons why a worker may want to transfer from one employer to another.  Some of the reasons are the death of an employer or emigration of a caregiver, sudden shutdown of a factory, death of a business, or injury suffered.

According to the MOL, they had set up the website to cater to the needs of foreign workers offering their services to Taiwan-based companies; also, to protect their rights and provide them transparency.
The rate of success of transfers of foreign workers to a new employer had increased by 90 percent more or less.

MOL had also said that they can be contacted, for problems regarding employer transfers, by dialing 1955. The contact number is available for 24 hours every day. The hotline also helps in giving the following services: consultation, complaint, legal help, and legal information, and other services relating to government agency information.
