A Filipina OFW Factory Worker in Taiwan Dies from Chemical Burn



According to a report by the Central News Agency on Thursday, a Filipina employee died after her legs got in contact with hydrofluoric acid while performing her assigned duties at a factory in Miaoli County.

Hydrofluoric acid is a chemical that gravely damages the skin when it comes in contact with it. It is a dangerous substance that may cause death when it touches human skin. It is usually used in the electronics industry and for cleaning metal surfaces and for glass etching.





Based on a statement by CNA, the tragedy happened at an electronics factory in the Chunan Science Park on Wednesday morning.

The woman who was just 29 years old was in her complete protective attire for cleaning circuit boards with the acid but unfortunately, she doesn’t have protective clothing to protect her legs and the chemical had touched her legs.

She died from severe chemical burns on her legs. Her co-workers tried their best to help her and get her to the hospital immediately but it was too late.




There are a number of hospitals in Taiwan which can handle burns from hydrofluoric acid. The Filipina had to be moved by ambulance from the factory to the Veteran’s General Hospital in Taipei.

According to her workmates, the Filipina had been working for the company for two years and she had planned on going back to the Philippines the following month.
