Pinoy OFW in Taiwan drowned in Tainan on Sunday Afternoon
According to Taipei News Network, it was reported by the Tainan City Government Fire Bureau that someone had drowned in a famous scenic spot in Tainan. It was an Overseas Filipino Worker from Pangasinan who had drowned this Sunday. His name was Renz, 30 years old. He was with his Filipino friends enjoying a good day in Sunset Platform, Qiaotouhaitan Park for their rest day when the incident happened.
Based on an article in taipeinewnetwork.com, Renz is a factory worker in T.Y.C. Brother Industrial Co. Ltd. The survivors of the incident told that they were playing volleyball when they saw that Renz had been drifting farther from land and that he looked like he was unconscious.
Feeling worried, they hurriedly tried to enter the water to rescue Renz. Unfortunately, they were also caught in the big waves of the sea. Moments later, the Filipinos who were trying to rescue Renz were saved by rescuers but Renz still was unconscious. Renz was then rushed to the Kuo General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 6 pm. Renz was the only Filipino who died from the event. The other four Filipinos with him were safely brought back to land by the rescuers.
According to the article from Taipei News Network, based on the statement of Renz’s friends and colleagues, he was not drunk. They told that they only brought pansit and cake to the beach.
The authorities are still investigating the incident.
