E-bike Over-speeding, Failure to Wear a Helmet while Riding an E-bike, and E-bike Modification will be Fined in Taiwan in October 2019
In Taiwan, rivers of e-bikes whose speed is more than twenty-five kilometers per hours are warned to reduce their speeds as e-bikes running at a speed more than 25 km/hr will be charged a fine.
Also, e-bike drivers who do not wear helmets while driving will also be charged to pay a fine.
Based on an announcement released by Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), it expressed its plans on making amendments on the regulations relating to the use of e-bikes in Taiwan. It plans to change the regulations about speeding and failure to wear a helmet while driving the e-bikes by charging the drivers a fine.
According to a report issued by the CAN, MOTC had released a statement regarding the current draft changes to Article 2 and Article 12 of the “Standard Punishment and Handling Violations of Road Traffic Rules Regulation”. The amendment would make over-speeding in an e-bike, failure to wear a helmet while riding an e-bike and altering an e-bike would be subject to fine charges. Its implementation is expected to begin in October of this year.
According to the draft amendment, the fine for over-speeding while riding an e-bike ranges from NT $900 (about US $30) to NT $1,800 while the failure of the driver to wear a helmet while riding the e-bike cost the driver a fine of NT $300. Citizens who illegally changes or alters the e-bike will also be charged with a fine of NT $5,400.
