Watch | Kaohsiung Mayor Again Made a Degrading Remark to Foreign Workers by comparing them to Chickens

According to an article from Formosa News, Han Kuo-Yu, Kaohsiung Mayor has yet again captured the attention of the public after comparing migrant workers to chickens after his “Maria” remark to OFWs earlier this year. He said that workers who are leaving from Taiwan are like phoenixes while the migrant workers who are entering Taiwan are like chickens.

The metaphor that the Kaohsiung mayor had released to the public had caused a protest coming from President Tsai. The resident said that Taiwan should thank migrant workers and that they should not be degraded. The president said that migrant workers should be recognized for their great contributions to Taiwan.

The Mayor of Taoyuan, Cheng Wen-tsan also defended the side of the migrant workforce and asks Han to do a public apology because there are some embassies which were affected by the issue. Cheng Wen-tsan said in his statement that as a presidential nominee, Han should be careful of the words that come out of his mouth.

Joyce Feng, a former minister, had been disappointed to the comparison made by Han to the migrant workers in Taiwan. Upon sharing to Han her request for him to take back what he said regarding the foreign workers in the country, he immediately apologizes and said that his statement did not intend to discriminate anybody.

Han further explains his claims as he only wishes that the phoenixes working abroad would return to their home country Taiwan so that competitive and highly qualified conditions can be created in the country. He later added to his statement that he may have said too much. The Kaohsiung mayor also said that his zodiac sign is the rooster. His zodiac sign was his inspiration of the thought of comparing migrant workers to chickens who are entering the country one-by-one. He wished that the phoenixes would also be like the chickens.
