Taipei | More than 300 e-bike riders ticketed for not wearing Helmet
Since the implementation of the new traffic law on Oct. 1st, more than 300 riders in Taipei City have been ticketed for violating the new law.
E-bike had been a helpful tool for foreign workers because of its affordable price ranges and cheap maintenance costs. It is also popular for tourists and high school students because the law does not require e-bike riders to possess a driver’s license.
Due to the popularity of the use of electronic bikes in Taiwan, accidents had increased significantly due to its improper usage. Some other factors like the excessive modification of the e-bikes including the modification of more than 25 kilometers of speed had been problematic and are negatively affecting traffic.
In order to protect the lives of e-bike riders, the transportation committee of the Legislative Yuan has amended the "Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act" and it was approved in May of this year.
They had started imposing fines for those riders who will not wear a helmet, Over Speed and those who will modify their e-bikes.
Since then many riders are still unaware and some choose to ignore the new traffic regulation that is why on Oct. 1st up 312 riders have been ticketed in New Taipei.
The Police said that the majority of e-bike riders are Migrant workers and elderly people that is why they are asking factory owners, families and friends to advise e-bike riders to always wear their helmet whenever they hit the road.
