An announcement had been issued by the Department of Agriculture regarding the processed meat products of Mekeni Food Corporation. The processed-meat products of Mekeni Food Corporation were tested for the African Swine Fever (ASF) and the results were positive.

The samples sent Mekeni for testing were the skinless longanisa product of Mekeni and its Picnic Hotdog product.

According to Officer-in-Charge Eric Domingo of the Food and Drug Administration, “Set of samples of longganisa and Picnic Hotdog tested positive for African Swine Fever based on tests conducted.”

The Department of Agriculture had advised Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who will be celebrating their holidays in the Philippines to refrain from bringing in meat products from the country where they will be coming from especially those from African Swine Fever-affected countries.

DA spokesperson Noel Reyes had said during a press conference to OFWs, these meat products will be immediately confiscated upon its entry to Philippine territory.

Noel Reyes said to the OFWs, “Huwag na silang magbitbit. Makukumpiska lang sa mga airport at seaport, especially if dumaan sila sa Hong Kong and China.”

Philippine authorities had issued a ban on meat products coming from China. China is among the other 24 countries that had an African Swine Fever outbreak.

It is also advised to OFWs coming from a country with no ASF outbreak to secure and present a product certificate where the meat product was bought.
