A manufacturing building in Kaohsiung City caught fire on the morning of Wednesday this week. At six in the morning on Wednesday, the Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau received a report that a factory in the Nanzi District’s Dongchang Street in Kaohsiung City was on fire. The place of the fire was in proximity with a gas refilling station and a residential building so the fire department rushed to the place of the fire to prevent it from spreading.

The factory stores a huge volume of textile products this means that the fire will be having highly flammable materials to burn inside the factory. Those who witnessed the fire saw that flame was going out of the factory. They also heard explosions.

There were no records of death and injuries from the incident. The smoke that came from the incident is being monitored by the Kaohsiung City Government Environment Protection Bureau (EPB). It also issued an air quality deterioration memo.

Residents in nearby areas had observed that heavy smoke and an unpleasant odor had drifted all over the district. There is a lower chance of the fast-spreading of the smoke because of the weakened speed of the wind in the area.

The EPB in Kaohsiung City stated that the spread of the smoke will be slower from morning until noon. Residents in the area are advised to refrain from intense outdoor activities in the meantime. They are also advised to wear face masks to protect their health against the possible threat of the smoke coming from the fire. According to the bureau, the winds from the sea in the afternoon will help blow the smoke and the harmful particles it contains.
