Taiwan’s Nationwide Face Mask Price Drop to Take Effect on February 1
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) had released a public statement on Thursday about the lowering of the prices of face masks being sold in Taiwan to NT$6 per mask. It will take effect on February 1. The nationwide face mask price drop aims to help citizens from being infected from the 2019-nCoV.
Due to the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) and the MOEA had issued tons of face masks to the public through convenience stores. However, there were reports of the masks being sold at higher prices.
According to the statement made by MOHW and the MOEA on Thursday, they will be lowering the price of the face masks to NT$6 until the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak gets to a controllable situation.
As the number of Wuhan virus cases is at an increasing trend, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had released a public notice that 6 million face masks will be issued all over Taiwan for three days. Each citizen will be allowed to purchase a maximum of three masks. However, some convenience stores reported the insufficiency of face masks supply.
President Tsai Ing-wen had promised on Thursday to provide 4.2 million surgical masks daily.
The MOHW shared that more or less 1.4 million face masks will be distributed to medical centers and medical practitioners, while the remaining number will be given to convenience stores for distribution.
