Taiwan’s 2nd 2019-nCoV Domestic Case: Confirmed
On Thursday, Taiwan confirmed its latest case of the 2019-nCoV infecting a Couple. It is the second domestic case in the country. It was reported that the family had lived in central Taiwan. It increases the total to 9 2019 Coronavirus cases in the country.
It was reported by the Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung that a husband who went on a trip to Wuhan on January 12 had spread the virus to his wife. On January 22, the husband had shown symptoms of respiratory illness. The man was not immediately identified as a carrier of the diseases after seeking treatment for his respiratory disease.
The symptoms that he showed were less intense to be suspected of carrying the 2019-nCoV, said Chen.
On January 27, his wife had showcased symptoms for the virus, and she was later on tested positive for the 2020 Coronavirus.
According to Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the husband had recovered from the disease and is currently not contagious. However, all of his family members will be observed and will be required to undergo testing for the said virus.
The wife’s symptoms are an example of a less severe case of the 2019-nCoV infection. Chuang stated that the command center would be putting focus on similar cases involving the 2020 Coronavirus.
Four million surgical face masks are being distributed to the public daily by the government, revealed by the center.
Approximately 1.4 million face masks will be distributed to public workers and medical practitioners. The remaining will be sold through pharmacies, convenience stores, and other authorized distributors.
Each customer is allowed to buy a maximum of three surgical face masks per transaction. This rule will be applicable until February 15. There is no need to wear surgical masks for healthy people.
