All migrants entering Taiwan will be in quarantine together

According to the Ministry of Labor (MOL) starting on Friday, the migrant caregivers and domestic helpers who will arrive on Taiwan must undergo a 14-day quarantine together. It is designated on a government-appointed facility.

It is decided upon to ease any problems of household employers that may struggle in terms of finding a location for their caregiver or domestic helper to stay in. Taiwanese that will arrive in Taiwan must also undergo the said quarantine, MOL declared.

MOL said that the facilities have 400 beds managed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and 230 beds are being planned by the help of manpower agency associations. All costs will be taken care of by the employer.

Employers will be required to have official paperwork on Saturday due to the limited total of beds available. It is to prove that their new worker has been accepted to stay in the facility before the worker can arrive in the Country, MOL said.

In the manufacturing sector, the migrant workers who will arrive ware required to follow the mandatory 14-day quarantine in locations handled by their companies and agreed upon by the government. One person per room and other requirements will be observed.

All the migrant workers who boarded their planes after 4 p.m. on March 17 will be required for a mandatory quarantine.

2,758 migrant workers as of Thursday, were in quarantine according to MOL's data.

CECC Deputy Labor Minister Liu Shih-hao (劉士豪) said at a daily conference on Friday that all costs caused by the migrant workers will be paid by their employers.

Technically, the workers do not have to be paid for their salary yet because the workers technically have not started working yet. Though it is advised that the employers do pay for the salary, Liu added.
