Coronavirus cases in Taiwan rise by 16 bringing in the total of 283 infected citizens



16 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been announced in Taiwan as of March 28, bringing in the total of infected individuals to 283.

According to Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) 14 of the new patients were all imported cases. Two were the cause of domestic infection. Their age ranged from teenagers to 60s.

241 of the infected were imported from overseas and 42 were domestic cases. There were also two deaths and 30 patients dismissed from the hospital.


268th is a domestic case and spent March 20 to March 23 in the hospital with pneumonia. The person developed a fever after they went home.268th visited the hospital again on March 25, the test leads to the person being diagnosed with Wuhan coronavirus.

269th is also a domestic case. The person usually goes to work and stays at home as a routine. People in contact with the said case,  seven relatives and colleagues, are being investigated for the potential of being infected with the disease, CECC said.

Between March 6 and 26, the imported cases have arrived in Taiwan. They flew to other countries and continents for work and study. The countries they traveled to include the United States, Ireland, Switzerland, Philippines, Spain, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and the Czech Republic.


Two imported cases had studied in the same school in the U.K. which already has three positive coronavirus patients in Taiwan. The origin of the group was possibly the meals attended by six people on March 14 and 16, according to CECC.

The 276th case was the fifth cases in a school also attended by the cluster in Spain. The person flew to Taiwan and arrived on March 12, conducted home isolation and developed the symptoms of the disease on March 28.

The daily increase rate of coronavirus has been between 15 to 20 cases in the past five days. Most of the recorded case in a day was 27 on the 20th of March.
