Indonisia bans the deployment of foriegn workers to Taiwan due to Coronavirus
Due to the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) in Taiwan, the Government of Indonesia had banned the deployment of their people in Taiwan.
The said ban went into effect yesterday March 21, 2020, and it is now causing concern to some employers who employ Indonesian workers for this may cause a shortage in manpower in Taiwan and will greatly affect the industries that employed Indonesian workers.
In response to this action by Jakarta, the Ministry of Labor on Friday encourage the employers to renew the contract of their current Indonesian workers.
At the time of writing, there are currently 276,000 Indonesian workers in Taiwan and that accounts for 38% of the total number of foreign workers in Taiwan.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Taiwan foreign workers who reach the limit of their contract will be allowed to be extended for a span of 3 months. As of now, factory workers are allowed to stay in Taiwan for 12-years while caregivers are allowed to stay up to 14-years
