Binay Slams DOLE for Deportation Order; Says It Should be Protecting OFWs and Not Harassing Them
Philippine Senator Nancy Binay had slammed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for requesting Taiwan to deport an OFW for the crime of cyber libel.
Binay told the labor agency that they have the responsibility to protect OFWs and that they should not be harassing the modern-day heroes of the country. According to Binay, labor authorities should not become the new ‘makapili’ during these trying times for the Philippines.
‘Makapili’ means treacherous Filipinos who worked as spies for the Japanese during WWII.
In a tweet, Binay reminded the agency that they are the protectors of OFWs and that they should stop being the new ‘makapili’ in front of the country’s heroes.
Earlier, it was reported that the Filipina caregiver in Taiwan, Elanel Egot Ordidor, was accused of cyber libel after posting in social media unpleasant criticism towards President Rodrigo Duterte and his administration. DOLE was reported to have previously asked Taiwan to deport the Filipina caregiver.
