Taiwan’s Minister of Health and CECC says Taiwan Will Not Yet Go into Lockdown
The COVID-19 outbreak was brought to Taiwan by the return of the country’s naval goodwill fleet from Palau. This news had made the public think if a lockdown is needed in the country.
Chen Shih-Chung, the Minister of Health and Welfare and the Central Epidemic Command Center’s (CECC) head stated on Wednesday in a press conference that the recent event of COVID-19 infection in the country was an emergency. However, the country is still from deciding to go into a nationwide lockdown.
On Wednesday morning, Chen participated in the Taiwan Cabinet’s conference about the progress of economic revitalization. Chen said that everyone should be alert.
Chen said that the issue should be seen in the context of the global pandemic.
The situation must be considered in the context of the local conditions, the emergency management capabilities of Taiwan, and the global pandemic.
Chen assures everyone that the country is not yet in the point to declare a lockdown.
The conference was led by Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang. Also, it was attended by Vice-Premier Chen Chi-Mai, Cabinet spokesperson Kolas Yotaka, Cabinet Secretary-General Li Meng-yen, Minister of Economic Affairs Shen Jong-Chin, Culture Minister Chen Li-chiun, Minister of the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics Chu Tzer-ming, Minister without Portfolio Kung Ming-hsin, Finance Minister Su Chien-rong, and other attendees.
