Trump offers additional aid to help fight the COVID-19 in the Philippines

The President of the United States of America had offered help to the Philippines as it continues to battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, says the US Embassy on Tuesday.

Trump gave the offer during his phone call with President Rodrigo Duterte on April 19.

Both leaders had agreed to cooperate as long-time allies to fight against the current pandemic, save people’s lives, and reestablish the economic strength of the world.

Jose Manuel Romualdez, the Philippine Ambassador to the U.S., stated that the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. will be working collaboratively with the government of the United States to continue bilateral cooperative operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United States of America announced in March that it will be giving out more or less P204 million or $4 million health care assistance to help the country fight against the current pandemic.

The assistance from the U.S. stated that it plans to support the country’s technical expert response and preparedness, laboratory system preparedness, infection prevention, risk communication, and case-finding and event-based surveillance.

Currently, there are 6,459 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 613 recoveries, and 428 deaths in the Philippines.

Additionally, Trump said his condolences for the death of the Philippines’ 11 soldiers from combatting Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Sulu.

Moreover, the two leaders talked about how both countries can continue creating strong and lasting cultural, security, and economic connections with each other, says the embassy.
