Starting on July 1st No more Plastic Straws in Taiwan

Plastic straws are a great problem to the environment. It is difficult to recycle. It is challenging and it takes a lot of time to recycle. That is why most of it is being disposed improperly and affects most bodies of water.

According to the EPA, seven hundred plastic bags are used by each Taiwan citizen per year. That is a total of sixteen billion plastic bags per year for the entire population of Taiwan.

In 2019, plastic straws will be banned in major restaurants in Taiwan and in the year 2020, all of the stores in the country will be implementing the ban of plastic straws. This will affect more than eight thousand businesses in Taiwan.

In the year 2025, every people in Taiwan will be asked to pay an additional fee for the use of plastic storage products like plastic shopping bags. Plastic spoon, fork, knife, plates, and cups will also be charged for an extra fee.

And in 2030, plastic products will be totally banned in the country.
Bubble milk tea businesses are still figuring out which alternative product they can use to substitute their boba-sized plastic straws. There are available reusable boba-sized straw in the market, the only problem with that is the convenience of the customers.

The plastic ban is the way of the government to lessen the negative impacts of its citizen on the environment.

In the G7 Summit, five of the seven countries who participated in the event had agreed to create a similar move regarding the plastic ban which Taiwan is starting to implement. The only two countries who did not agree to the plans of the five countries are the United States of America and Japan.

The country road to a plastic-free environment will be a challenging and a long but rewarding journey. By 2030, Taiwan citizens are expected to adapt to the plastic-free lifestyle that the Taiwan government is implementing.
