Filipino Christmas Themed Event to be Held in Taoyuan (Guest: Daryl Ong)




Manila Economic & Cultural office the representative office of the Philippines in Taiwan will be hosting a Christmas event in Taoyuan this Sunday. The celebration will be centered on the OFWs who are working in Taiwan. There will be cultural shows, prizes to be won, and a presentation by a Filipino showbiz personality.




The title of the event is 2019 Paskong Pinoy: Ang Diwa ng Pasko (2019 The Christmas of Filipinos: The Essence of Christmas). It will be celebrated in Taoyuan City Hall Plaza

According to MECO’s director for the assistance to nationals section Sabrina Aaron, the event targets to share to everyone how Filipinos value the celebration of Christmas.

It was expected that 1,500 visitors will come to the event. There will also be a contest for creative lantern creation (parol).




The parol or Christmas lantern in the Philippines is one of the most significant symbols of Christmas for the Filipinos representing the star that helped the three wise men find the newly born Jesus Christ.

Aaron also told CNA that Filipinos celebrate Christmas starting from the month of September.
Daryl Ong will also be performing a special number for the celebration of the event.

The participants of the event may also join the raffle.

The event aims to let the OFWs enjoy and relax for their hard work. The event also wants to lessen their feelings of missing their home country.

Based on the records of the Ministry of Labor, as of October 31st this year, there are 157,030 OFWs in Taiwan. They are the 3rd largest group of foreign workers in the country.
