Taipei MRT Proposes New System to Reward Frequent Riders
According to the reports, passengers of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in Taipei, Taiwan may be given discounts and rebates.
The project is still subject to approval by the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC)’s board members. The prospective pilot of the program will be after the New Year celebration in the first month of next year.
According to a report by the CNA, the proposed system will change the present 20% discount off using the EasyCard and other types of e-systems.
In the proposed system, the highest rebate is 30% of the fare paid for an entire month for those passengers who will make a minimum of 51 journeys in a month.
A minimum of 10% rebate will be awarded to passengers who rode 11 to 20 times in a month.
For those who had 21 to 30 rides in a month, they will be given a rebate of fifteen percent.
Based on the TRTC, the rebate will be connected to a specific card that may not be used by a person on his other cards.
One “journey” is from the entry point of the MRT to the exit point of the station.
The specialized cards of children and the elderly and their discounts to transfers from the MRT to buses will still be functional.
