Magnitude 6.5 earthquake hits Taiwan and has been felt in Many Cities and Counties


Today October 24, Taiwan has been hit by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake at 01:13 pm 

According to the data taken from the website of the Central Weather Bureau, the epicenter of the quake was recorded at 22.7 km S of Yilan County Hall with a Focal depth: 66.8 km.



The strongest intensity was recorded at Yilan, Hualien, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taipei, Taichung, Nantou, Hsinchu, Keelung, Miaoli, Hsinchu City at Intensity level 4 followed by Intensity level 3 in Changhua County, Yunlin County, Taitung County, Chiayi County, Chiayi City.

While Intensity level  2 was recorded at Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, Pingtung County, Penghu County, and in Lienchiang County an Intencity Level 1 was recorded by CWB.

The Central Weather Bureau uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure the intensity of an Earthquake.  This measures the degree of an earthquake that has been felt in a specific location.
