Magnitude 6 earthquake hits Taiwan and has been felt in Many Cities and Counties




Today January 3, Taiwan has been hit by a magnitude 6 earthquake at 05:46 pm 

According to the data taken from the website of the Central Weather Bureau, the epicenter of the quake was recorded at 56.7 km E of  Hualien County Hall with a Focal depth: 19.4 km.






The strongest intensity was recorded at Yilan, Taipei City area, New Taipei City at Intensity level 4 followed by Intensity level 3 Hualien County, Taichung City Hsinchu County, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Changhua County.

While Intensity level  2 was recorded at Nantou County, Taitung County, Keelung County, Keelung City, Miaoli County, Chiayi County, Yunlin County Chiayi City, and an Intensity Level 1 was recorded by CWB Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, Pingtung County Penghu County.

The Central Weather Bureau uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure the intensity of an Earthquake.  This measures the degree of an earthquake that has been felt in a specific location.
