Hualien Bus Crash Leaves One Dead and Multiple Injured

A collision between a Hualien passenger bus and a sedan resulted in the death of one passenger and multiple injuries on the morning of April 8th in Taiwan. The bus was traveling on Highway 11 when it collided with the sedan near the 47.7K mark, causing the bus to lose control and flip over the bridge.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and found five people on the bus, one of whom was trapped inside. The sedan had one passenger who was also injured. The injured were taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, the trapped passenger rescued from the bus had no pulse and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

The police are still investigating the cause of the accident and the liability. Initial investigations have revealed that neither driver was drunk. The driver of the sedan, surnamed Ke, aged 21, was camping in Fengbin Township with a college classmate. Ke allegedly failed to notice the situation in front of his car and crossed the double yellow lines while making a left turn.

The police reviewed the bus's driving records and found that the bus was traveling at 90 kilometers per hour, exceeding the speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour on that section of the road.

The bus driver is currently hospitalized for treatment of injuries and will be sent to the prosecutor's office for negligent homicide charges after his condition allows him to provide a statement.

The deceased victim, surnamed Huang, aged 55, was the sister of Huang Jianzhi, the village chief of Jingpu Village in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. Huang's family was devastated by the news of her death. She had been working at a restaurant to support her four children and was taking the bus home when the accident occurred.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the potential consequences of reckless driving. The police urge all motorists to exercise caution and abide by traffic rules to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
